This course aims to provide participants with the skill and knowledge to work as stevedores in PSA’s Terminals.
Practical test
Personnel who are required to handle break-bulk cargo on board ships or on wharves and who are required to lash/unlash containers at the conventional terminals.
3 days (0830 -1630 hrs)

• Opening and closing hatches
• Hatches means of access, lighting, ventilation
• Nature and packing of cargo

• Personal protective equipment
• Preparation for work
• Handling general cargo and heavy lifts
• Slinging safety
• Safety on wharf and on board vessels
• Lifting safely kinetics

• Examples of Lashing Patterns
• Berthing and unberthing operations
• Practical exercise - manual lifting (kinetics)
• Practical exercise - signalling

• Fixing / removing cones, manual twistlocks and semiauto twistlocks
• Fixing/dismantling turnbuckle/ bar and chain lashing
• Fixing / removing bridge fittings
• Coning / deconing at wharfside

Upon passing a practical test, participants will receive a Certificate of Successful Completion and participants with PSA passes will be able to work as stevedores in PSA’s Terminals.
Participants must meet the statutory age requirements and be medically fit to perform the duties of a lashing worker.
